What is vox.io?
Vox.io [pronounced /vōx-dōt-īō/] is a simple service that lets you make voice and video calls straight from your browser. No downloads, installations or firewall configurations are required.
Are you in beta?
Yes, that is why you might experience some minor hiccups.
When are you launching?
When we feel ready. Until then you can help us make vox.io better by signing up for our beta.
Is vox.io just another voice over ip service?
No. Vox.io is not just another VoIP (voice over ip) service. First, you do not have to install anything to use vox.io. Second, you do not have to know what VoIP, SIP or "domain" means. Third, we do not eat your bandwidth by using your computer as a super-node. Finally, we offer a lean experience, lowering the barrier for making voice and video calls via the internet.
Can I receive calls in vox.io?
You can receive calls originated from another vox.io user. Inbound calls from landline/mobile numbers are in the roadmap and will be available soon.
Is vox.io a free service?
Vox.io is not a free (completely free) service. Web calls between vox.io users are free. Calls to phones are charged.
Can I invite my friends?
Sure, we'll be very happy if you do. We know vox.io is much more awesome when you can make free calls to your online friends.
What do I need to use vox.io?
You need a computer, a browser with Adobe Flashâ„¢ player installed and a microphone. If you want to make video calls, you will also need a camera. We have tested vox.io with an immense number of setups, but something might have slipped by. If you encountered any problems while using vox.io please do contact us on Twitter or leave a comment on our GetSatisfaction page.
What is a Quick Call?
Quick Calls are web collect calls. You create a link, send that to someone and they can call you back at their convenience, without having to download or install anything. Quick Calls are free when answered in vox.io and are charged to the recipient when answered as a normal incoming phone call. Quick Calls also expire after the first successful call. Read more about it on our blog.
Will you introduce mobile vox.io apps for iPhone and/or Android?
Yes. A mobile application for iPhone is available in the App Store. Android is coming soon.
Why do you need to access my Google Contacts data?
We designed vox.io to take advantage of your Google Contacts data, to spare you the burden of entering all the contacts information again. We use Google Contacts because Google provides a great contacts Sync tool for basically any mobile out there. If you have an Android phone chances are that you already synced all your contacts with Google Contacts. You can also import your LinkedIn contacts or upload a vcard file.
I can not call some of my contacts.
Please check if their phone numbers are in the right (international) format. Still having problems? Contact us via Twitter or on our GetSatisfaction page.
Will you develop your own account syncing tool?
No. Please use the great tool provided by Google.
